EAA Chapter 162 is a proud supporter of the Young Eagles program. We typically hold two events a year usually at Smyrna (MQY) airport, one in the spring and one in the fall. One of these will satisfy all the requirements for the Boy Scout merit badge.
Brian Sutherland is our Young Eagles coordinator.
2012 Young Eagles Calendar
April 21, 2012 CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER
Our next program will be in the fall of 2012 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at Smyrna Airport (MQY).
The rally will take place at the Smyrna Airport (MQY) terminal building located on the West side of the airport. It is our intention to fulfill the requirements for the Aviation Merit Badge: ground school, flight in an airplane, and tour of the local ATCT facility.
We always need plenty of volunteers will be needed to ensure a successful event - especially pilots and airplanes. Ideally, we want to give each participant a "front seat" experience, which translates to one Young Eagle per flight, but we can fly up to three per airplane should resources become a factor. If you have never flown a Young Eagle, this will be a great opportunity to put your name in the "books". Additional details and requirements can be found at the following link:

Ground support volunteers will also be a critical part of this event. Duties include check-in, ground school, flight line safety, refreshments, printing certificates, photography, and matching youths to planes and pilots. Many of you have served in the past and are aware of the little details that will make this a fun and stress-free experience for kids and adults alike. Please don't hesitate in making your thoughts known!
If you have kids who would like to fly as Young Eagles, please contact Brian Sutherland.
